Ghafoor comes from the root ghayn-faa-raa, which points to three main meanings | He told me to say, "Allahumma inni zalumtu nafsi zulman kathiran, Wala yaghfiru dh-dhunuba illa anta, fa ghfir li maghfiratan minindika, wa r-hamni, innaka anta l-ghafuru r-rahim O Allah! The third meaning is to show favour, and the fourth meaning is to have all that is required for beneficence |

Al-Ghafoor is the One Who forgives, regardless of how large the sin is, and He forgives repeatedly! [Quran, Surah Saad 38:35] This was the dua of Prophet Sulaiman who started his dua by seeking forgiveness from Allah first then asking for his request.
